Fuel prices continue to go up--in fact 2012 proved to be another record year for fuel prices with the aver¬age national price of regular gasoline hitting $3.60. If you use diesel your average price was $3.97 per gallon. Even though the U.S. is experiencing a new oil boom due to new technologies this oil is expen¬sive to extract. These gains are not enough to overcome existing world oil field decline rates, increased demand from Asian, South American and Middle Eastern countries, and decreased output from countries experiencing political upheaval. Our families and the organizations we work with are exposed to a global oil market whose characteristics guarantee ever increasing volatility and instability.
There are options-- new vehicles are increasingly efficient and more alternative fuel vehicles come onto the market each year. Yes, the vehicles are more expensive however when you analyze the life-cycle or long term costs these vehicles can be economic winners that come with environmental benefits.
Want to learn more? Come and listen to the experts, have lunch with your peers, and then tour the auto show. This year the Portland International Auto Show has expanded the ECO-Center even further. This year it will feature more alternative fuel vehicles than ever before.
